I’ve been getting a ton of anonymous response scams to my posts. I don’t know of any way to stop them other than to use word verification for commenting. I don’t really want to do this as I fear it will discourage people from commenting and I love to read the comments. Granted, these “anonymous” responses only show up in my email and not on the post itself but I still have to delete them from my inbox. What to do, what to do? Do I just leave things as is and continue to delete from my inbox …. or do you have any other suggestion on how to handle this annoyance?
I'm having the same problem Sharon and sometimes I have more that 15 anonymous emails in one day. I just delete them but I'm so annoyed as well. I really don't know what to do either. If you resolve to problem before me please let me know... Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carolina. I am going to continue to just delete for now as well. I really don't like using word verification strictly because I can't stand it when I'm forced to use it when commenting on other blogs, lol. I'm just very grateful that the anonymous comments don't show up on the post or that would be a disaster!
DeleteSet your comment moderation to approval first before its published. You will then click on your comments in blogger dashboard and publish only those you want to. No word vetification this way. Word varification is totally annoying and serves no purpose. Hope this helps,

Thanks for the tip, Desire. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI have been getting a ton too over the last couple of weeks. I just started reporting as spam in my email and they have started to dwindle down. Since they don't show up on my blog, for now I am not using the word verification. If they show up on my blog I will probably go to the approval method before publishing.

Yes, I have come to the conclusion as well. As long as they aren't showing up here in the comments, I will continue to delete from my inbox. I also like your suggestion of reporting as spam, too, so I will start doing that.
DeleteI must have jinxed myself Sharon because yesterday they started showing up on old posts. It is amazing how they get through and very annoying. So, I have added the approval method:)

I've been getting them on old posts as well. I'm still deleting but it's getting old, lol. Will probably go to approval in the near future.
DeleteWill changing your password work for you? I had that problem on my email account and had to change my password to stop it. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your suggestion. I will give it a try.
DeleteSame here -- tons of spam in my emails but I just delete and keep going. I would love to see what the solution is!
ReplyDeleteWe miss you over in the COF :) Blessings to you!

Thanks, Kelly. I just popped over to check in. You are in my prayers, girlfriend. (((hugs)))
DeleteI just found your blog and am about to look around more, but I've been dealing with some spam even with word verification on. There are people out there being paid to comment on blogs and leave links to their companies, so word verification is a help but even that won't completely resolve the problem. I get a few spammers a week, and the smarter ones still show up on my blog comments.
ReplyDeleteI think word verification is worth it. You may lose some comments, but people still visit your blog and just don't comment. I hate reading all the annoying spam, and I still get plenty of enjoyable comments to read with word verification on. Just some more thoughts to what has already been said. :)
Thanks for your comments, Kelly. I will keep your thoughts in mind.
